THE RIGHT TO HEALTH & THE 3RD RECONSTRUCTION:
A TRUTH COMMISSION ON HEALTHCARE
At a time when an estimated 50% of insured New Yorkers lack access to basic healthcare we will gather together to hear from community members and leaders in the Hudson Valley as they share their personal experiences and call on state leaders to pass legislation providing comprehensive, universal healthcare. Covid-19 has laid bare the systemic disparities in healthcare across New York and around the nation and world, but it doesn’t have to be this way. No one should have to choose between rent, food, and healthcare in the richest nation on earth. All New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status, have a human right to healthcare.
At these Truth Commission events we lift up the “plight, fight and insight” of the poor and dispossessed not only highlighting the pain and injustice we experience, but also the ways that people on the front lines of poverty, racism, militarism and ecological devastation are resisting, organizing, and coming up with solutions to our problems. This truth commission will feature music and testimony from directly impacted leaders, as well testimonies by leaders from, The NYS Poor People's Campaign:A National Call for Moral Revival, Campaign for New York Health, New York State Nurses Association, Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, and Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) - NY Metro Chapter, connecting these experiences to the national healthcare crisis.
En un momento en que se estima que el 50% de los neoyorquinos asegurados carecen de acceso a atención médica básica, nos reuniremos para escuchar a miembros de la comunidad y líderes del Valle del Hudson mientras comparten sus experiencias personales y llaman a los líderes estatales a que aprueben una legislación que brinde atención médica integral y universal. Covid-19 ha puesto al descubierto las disparidades sistémicas en la atención médica en Nueva York, en todo el país y el mundo, pero esto no tiene por qué ser así. Nadie debería tener que elegir entre el alquiler, la comida y la atención médica en la nación más rica de la tierra. Todos los neoyorquinos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio, tienen el derecho humano a la atención médica.
En estos eventos de la Comisión de la Verdad mostramos la "difícil situación, las luchas y la perspicacia" de los pobres y desposeídos no sólo destacando el dolor y la injusticia que experimentamos, sino también las formas en que las personas en la primera línea de la pobreza, el racismo, el militarismo y la devastación ecológica están resistiendo, organizándose y encontrando soluciones a nuestros problemas. En esta comisión de la verdad tendremos música y testimonios de líderes directamente impactados, así como testimonios de líderes de la Asociación de Enfermeras del Estado de NY (NYSNA y la organización “Caring Majority”, quienes conectaran estas experiencias con la crisis nacional de salud.
