TRUTH COMMISSION REPORTS

LAND BACK AND THE 3RD RECONSTRUCTION:
A TRUTH COMMISSION WITH THE SHINNECOCK NATION

On October 11, 2021 - Indigenous People’s Day - more than 350 people gathered virtually to hear testimony from Shinnecock leaders on the impact of the intersecting evils of poverty, systemic racism, environmental devastation, militarism/colonialism, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism, as well as how the community is organizing in response.

HUNGER, HOUSING, AND THE 3RD RECONSTRUCTION:
A TRUTH COMMISSION WITH THE CAPITAL REGION

On December 7th we gathered to learn from the plight, fight, and insight of Capital Region community members who are engaged in struggles around food and housing insecurity. In recent years, New York has passed transformative legislation to meet the needs of poor and marginalized communities relating to food and housing. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the extent of these crises and thrown millions into poverty and precarity.

THE RIGHT TO HEALTH AND THE 3RD RECONSTRUCTION
A TRUTH COMMISSION WITH THE CAPITAL REGION

On February 22nd, we gathered to hear testimony on healthcare injustice. The testimonies illustrated the inhumanity of our current healthcare system, which treats healthcare as a commodity and makes it inaccessible to many poor and low-income New Yorkers.  Healthcare is not a commodity, just as we the poor and dispossessed are not commodities.

LABOR POWER AND THE 3RD RECONSTRUCTION
A TRUTH COMMISSION WITH LABOR IN WESTEN NY

On May 14th, we gathered to hear testimony on labor power and worker struggles in Western NY. This event was cosponsored by

Trabajadores Agrícolas Unidos (TAU), Alianza Agrícola, Rochester & Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation, SEIU Local 200United, Starbucks Workers United, and the NYS Poor People’s Campaign
